Last week I attended the Urban Garden Tour held by the Flint, MI based Edible Flint . It was a fantastic trip to six veggie gardens ranging in size from the backyard Victory Garden to an eight acre garden used to teach inner city youths about growing and cooking fresh foods, as well as social interactions with customers at the Flint Farmers Market.
After the tour the bus dropped of us off at the new Flint Farmers Market building where we were treated to dinner and ice cream, all provided by local vendors and restaurants. It was a great experience to visit the various gardens, which were only a small sampling of the over 300 urban gardens that exist in Flint.
I am inspired to really ramp up my own backyard production for next year and have some fun at the same time!
Below are some pictures that I took while on the tour. If you are in the Flint area definitely consider joining the tour next year. Did I mention that it was free?
